The newest issue of Folio will be hot off the presses this week. Included is Roxane Gay’s stellar essay “Girls Girls Girls,” which first appeared – famously – at The Rumpus, and is being reprinted in this 2013 issue of Folio. The issue also includes poetry by Hettie Jones (No Woman No Cry), winner of the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber Award. Folio 2013 promises dazzling art, a collection of prose you won’t soon forget, and stunning poetry. Purchase a copy.
On Saturday, May 11, Folio, a nationally recognized literary journal sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences at American University, will launch its 2013 issue with a release party and reading. In addition, the party will be a celebration of another year of study, and for some, the end of the MFA road. Festivities will be held at 826 DC in Columbia Heights, and will begin at 6 PM. There will be food, a DJ, and libations available to everyone. There’s no admission fee for the evening, but donations to the folks at 826 DC are welcomed. The reading will begin at 7:30, and readers include Folio contributors, Roxane Gay, D. Gilson, Jonathan Papernick, and Henry Mills. Many of American University’s distinguished faculty members will also be in attendance. We encourage all to attend.
