Search here for a list of literary journals and their ongoing submission deadlines. I love you all, but I’m not going to search through the 1,112 literary journals listed for deadlines each month.

The Inner Loop
A monthly literary reading series in the DC area that selects writers (both established and emerging) by submission. Accepts poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
Next reading: November 15th (submit now!)

 Association of Writers & Writing Programs
Accepting submissions on topics including the craft of writing, career advice, and appreciations of important movements in the literary world during the past fifty years.
Deadline: open year-round

Creative Nonfiction: True Story (new monthly magazine)
Seeks nonfiction submissions between 3,500-7,000 words.
Deadline: open year-round

Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction
Seeks nonfiction submissions for its fall reading period.
Deadline: November 30

Clockhouse
Seeks submissions of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction for its 2017 issue.
Deadline: December 1

Narrative: 30 Below Contest
Prize of $1,500! If you’re under the age of 30, submit a poem (any length), short story, essay, or excerpt from a work of fiction or creative nonfiction. Prose submissions up to 15,000 words. $24 entry fee.
Deadline: November 9

Rosebud Magazine: William Stafford Award for Poetry
Prize of $1,000! Submit up to 3 poems. $12 entry fee.
Deadline: November 10 

Brooklyn Film & Arts Festival
Prize of $500! Submit nonfiction essay up to 2,500 words that is set in Brooklyn, NY. No entry fee.
Deadline: November 15

Hit & Run Press: William Dickey Memorial Broadside Contest
Prize of $1,000! Submit a poem between 12-30 lines. $10 entry fee.
Deadline: November 15

Measure Press: Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award
Prize of $1,000! Submit a sonnet. $3 entry fee.
Deadline: November 15

Narrative: Fall 2016 Story Contest
Prizes of up to $4,000! Submissions open to various forms of fiction and nonfiction (see website for more details). $24 entry fee.
Deadline: November 30

City Paper: Fiction Issue
Prize of $500! Submit DC-based story of up to 1,000 words. Email submission to editor@washingtoncitypaper.com with “Fiction Issue” in subject line.
Deadline: December 1

Rose Metal Press: Short Short Chapbook Contest
Prize of publication! Submit 25-40 pages of flash fiction or nonfiction (each piece under 1,000 words). $10 entry fee.
